OK, after a super long hiatus, the artblog is back up and running. I am so sorry for the long delay but we're finally in our home and settling down enough to get back on schedule (phew!)

So since it's been awhile now, let's just leave the theme-word as 'hat' for this next week and give everyone a chance to send in submissions. I'll add the artwork to the blog as I get it.

The word for the coming week has been suggested by Lilli M. I got this email from her Mom and wanted to share it:
"I asked Lilli about a word and she was SO excited! First she said "grandmother" but then quickly said "no no... not that!" and then she said "mad" and then said "wait, no... not that either". Her final decision is "hat". I told her maybe I'd give you a choice of the 3 and she said "NO!!!!! because then SHE'LL choose and might choose "mad" and not "hat" and I think hat's would be so colorful!!!!" So... "hat" it is! She's so sweet!!!!!"

HA! OK, Lilli, I won't choose for you - 'Hat' it is!

Yahoo, we had the drawing for the first give-away and are getting geared up for next week's prize. It's a super funky hand-knit pencil case with some other art goodies from Bridget M. Give aways galore!

We're going to be having some give-aways over the next several weeks around here. All art-related give-aways, and just our way of boosting the kids involved in the Wednesday Gallery. Who doesn't like to win something, right?

We've got things like a travel-friendly crayon roll (like the camo one pictured in the header), a hand-knit organic wool pencil case, & a set of oil-pastels to gift away...to name a few.

Here's how it'll work. Every kid(yup, the over 21 variety counts too :)) that sends in an art-piece will get their name added towards a drawing each Wednesday. A name will be picked at random and if your name is called, expect a gift in the mail. So simple even us aging flub-a-dubbed Mommys with toooo many things on our plate can still handle it. If you know of any kids that love to get the paints and glue out and 'get creative' on the living room walls, here's a good way for them to finally get something out of it. Who says art doesn't pay???!!

Let's get rolling!

So how the idea for this blog got started was plain and simple idea-thievery (surely it's not a sin if credit is given where credit is due?!) I was surfing the net and stumbled upon this eye-candy of a blog called "Gennine's Art Blog". She is an amazing woman who started an artblog for her sons. She inspired me to run to the closest art store and buy a few tubes of watercolor paint, a pad of paper, and to start painting, and she also inspired the artblog idea for my own children. I wanted to open it up to other homeschooling families as it seems that the more accountability I have in my life, the more apt I am to actually accomplish certain goals...and doing art with the kids on a weekly basis has been a goal of mine for a very, very long time. Well no more dreaming, it's time to get the ball rolling and starting making some masterpieces!!

The theme word for Week 1 is "Rock". So go ahead and let your inner artist run rampant and let's see what we can create.
